I became very weak while on vacation in Cancun. I went to the hospital where they checked my blood and discovered my hemoglobin levels were only 1/3 of normal. I called my hemotologist in Kalamazoo, MI who said I needed to get a transfusion to stabilize my condition and then get home.

My wife and I were on board the Carnival Glory Cruise Ship near Cozumel, Mexico, when around 2:00 a.m. I had a heart attack. My wife called 911 on the ship and they had to revive me and put me on oxygen. They kept me stable and by 9:00 a.m. I was taken by ambulance to the Cozumel Medical Center.
When we got there the Medical Center wanted $25,000 up front; my wife gave them $5,000 using our credit card but the clinic said that was not enough. My wife then phoned my daughter and son-in-law and they came up with $15,000; the clinic settled for $20,000.
